Convention on the Rights of the Child
The Application of the Convention with regard to indigenous Rwandan children
Shadow Report by CAURWA to the UN Committee
May 2004

pdf version – 0.4Mb

FPP’s partner organisation, CAURWA (Communauté des Autochtones Rwandais), the national NGO for the Twa, presented their shadow report to the United Nations’ Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in May 2004.

The CRC expressed its concern at the situation of Twa children, at their limited access to basic social services, and the violation of their rights to survival and development, to enjoy their own culture, and to be protected from discrimination. The CRC has recommended that Rwanda carry out a study to assess the situation and needs of Twa children and to elaborate a plan of action involving leaders of the Twa community to protect the rights of Twa children.
