Sabah
- Petition to halt construction of Kaiduan Dam
Against the wishes of the local communities, the Sabah State Government
is considering construction of a dam which will flood over 350 sq
km of traditional and community land, including 9 villages. The Environmental
Impact Assessment is being challenged for failing to follow State-prescribed
procedures. The Action Committee Against Kaiduan Dam seeks public
support to request the Government to cancel plans for the dam and
to take alternative measures including: improving the management of
its water supply, conducting a public campaign to save water, and
exploring other cheaper and safer options for supply of water.
