'The
great green land grab'
Marcus Colchester, FPP's director, urges conservationists to reject
external land purchase as the solution to forest protection. FPP believes
in and campaigns for the full recognition of rights of indigenous
and other forest-dependent peoples to secure their customary lands
and forests and maintains that this is the most just - and effective
- way of ensuring forest conservation.

No Silver Bullet for Combating Deforestation
Throwing huge amounts of money at forest problems in developing
countries through Reduced Emissions from Deforestation (RED) schemes
is no guarantee that forest loss will be stopped or even slowed
down. In fact, it could even cause more problems for forest peoples
and push deforestation into new areas.
