'The great green land grab'
Marcus Colchester, FPP's director, urges conservationists to reject external land purchase as the solution to forest protection. FPP believes in and campaigns for the full recognition of rights of indigenous and other forest-dependent peoples to secure their customary lands and forests and maintains that this is the most just - and effective - way of ensuring forest conservation.

No Silver Bullet for Combating Deforestation
Throwing huge amounts of money at forest problems in developing countries through Reduced Emissions from Deforestation (RED) schemes is no guarantee that forest loss will be stopped or even slowed down. In fact, it could even cause more problems for forest peoples and push deforestation into new areas.
