Many articles relating to the havoc
caused by the tsunami have been published since the disaster struck on December
26th, and many more will be written in the future. The collection below
contains a limited selection of articles highlighting some of the ecological,
social and political failures that contributed to the massive death toll of
this natural phenomenon; the role played by healthy mangrove and coral reef
ecosystems and traditional wisdom in saving lives; and some articles address
the critical issues faced by local communities post-tsunami. While these
articles do not necessarily represent the views of the Forest Peoples
Programme, they provide useful food for thought and address issues for serious
consideration in the post-tsunami restoration and reconstruction efforts.
