Inter-American Court of Human Rights adopts compliance orders in the Saramaka People v. Suriname case, 23 Nov 2011

On 23 November 2011, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights adopted compliance orders in the Saramaka People v. Suriname case. The Court finds that Suriname has failed to comply with the most important of its orders made in the 2007 judgment; holds that Suriname is in some respects "in direct contravention of the Court's decision and, accordingly, of the State's international treaty obligations;" and decides to convene a hearing on the case during 2012. Los Saramaka reciben el Premio Ambiental Goldman de 2009

En la ceremonia de entrega celebrada en San Francisco los líderes de la comunidad Cimarrón Saramaka recibieron este premio por su trabajo en el caso del pueblo Saramaka contra Surinam decidido por la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos en 2007. La sentencia con la que acabó este caso marcó un hito para los pueblos indígenas y tribales de América, ya que les confería el control de la explotación de los recursos existentes en sus territorios.

Lors d’une cérémonie à San Francisco, ce prix a été décerné aux leaders de la communauté marronne saramaka pour leur travail sur l’affaire du peuple saramaka contre le Suriname de 2007, jugée par la Cour interaméricaine des droits de l’homme. Cette affaire a finalement conduit à une décision déterminante pour les peuples autochtones et tribaux des Amériques en matière de contrôle de l'exploitation des ressources sur leurs territoires.
