COP12 Agrees on the use of “Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities” in Decisions and Secondary Documents under the Convention of Biological Diversity

With the theme “Biodiversity for Sustainable Development”, the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD COP 12) was held from 6th to 17th October 2014 in Pyeongchang, Korea. The meeting aimed at raising international awareness on the essential role of biodiversity and its contribution to sustainable development, as well as at highlighting biodiversity in the context of the post-2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launch of the Whakatane Mechanism and new publication

A Mechanism for promoting rights-based conservation through practical implementation of IUCN Resolutions, including redressing historical injustices and securing communities’ rights to their lands and territories.

Three pilot Whakatane Assessments are in progress in Kenya, Thailand, and DRC, and another in preparation in Indonesia. These will be presented and discussed at this official launch of the Mechanism, chaired by Aroha Te Pareake Mead, Chair of CEESP.

Comprehensive land-use planning: A rights-based approach

The paper looks at issues arising from including land use mitigation in a future climate agreement and suggests 3 key principles - Ambition, that mitigation in the land sector should not undermine mitigation in other sectors;Food security and equity, as a priority for developing countries where are to 80% of people rely on smallholder livelihoods;and rights, recognising the importance of tenure, usage and access rights.

Looking Ahead: International workshop on Deforestation Drivers and the Rights of Forest Peoples, Indonesia

An international workshop organised by Forest Peoples Programme and Pusaka will bring together forest peoples, governments, NGOs, international agencies and forest scientists from Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America on 9 -14 March 2014 in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The aim of the workshop is to share lessons and generate recommendations on effective measures to stem deforestation, promote human rights and secure local livelihoods. 

De cara al futuro: taller internacional sobre los impulsores de la deforestación y los derechos de los pueblos de los bosques, Indonesia

Un taller internacional organizado por el Forest Peoples Programme y Pusaka reunirá a pueblos de los bosques, Gobiernos, ONG, organismos internacionales e científicos forestales de África, el sudeste de Asia y Latinoamérica del 9 al 14 de marzo de 2014 en Palangkaraya, Kalimantan Central, Indonesia.

La finalidad del taller es compartir lecciones y generar recomendaciones sobre medidas eficaces para contener la deforestación, promover los derechos humanos y asegurar los medios de vida locales.

Un regard vers l’avenir : Atelier international sur les moteurs de la déforestation et les droits des peuples autochtones, Indonésie

Un atelier international organisé par le Forest Peoples Programme et PUSAKA réunira des peuples des forêts, des gouvernements, des ONG, des organismes internationaux et des spécialistes des forêts d’Afrique, d’Asie du Sud-Est et d’Amérique latine du 9 au 14 mars 2014 à Palangkaraya, au Kalimantan central, Indonésie.

L'atelier a pour objectif de partager les expériences et de générer des recommandations relatives aux  mesures efficaces pour endiguer la déforestation, promouvoir les droits humains et garantir les moyens de subsistance locaux.

Memandang keMuka: Lokakarya internasional tentang Penyebab Deforestasi dan Hal-Hak Masyarakat Hutan, Indonesia

Sebuah lokakarya internasional yang diselenggarakan oleh Forest Peoples Programme dan Pusaka akan mempertemukan masyarakat hutan, pemerintah, NGO, lembaga internasional dan ilmuwan kehutanan dari Afrika, Asia Tenggara dan Amerika Latin pada tanggal 9-14 Maret 2014 di Palangkaraya, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia.

Tujuan dari lokakarya ini adalah untuk berbagi pelajaran dan menghasilkan rekomendasi tentang langkah-langkah efektif untuk membendung deforestasi, mempromosikan hak asasi manusia dan mengamankan mata pencaharian setempat.
