The Forest Peoples Programme’s Gender Programme aims to amplify Indigenous women’s voices, stories, and contributions to their collective land rights movements, community governance, and self-determination.

This short documentary highlights the work that Indigenous women are doing in Cameroon to safeguard their livelihoods, secure their territories, and to their develop leadership skills.  Co-created by FPP and created with Gbabandi, the platform for Cameroon's Indigenous forest peoples. 

Ce court documentaire met en lumière le travail accompli par les femmes autochtones au Cameroon pour préserver leurs moyens de subsitance, sécuriser leurs territoires, et développer leurs compétences en matière de leadership.

Immaculata Casimero is a Wapichan woman and is a member of the Wapichan Wiizi Women’s Movement, as well as being Communications Officer at the South Rupununi District Council. She spoke to us about her work carrying out women’s rights workshops in communities, how the Wapichan peoples are affected by climate change, and how indigenous voices were represented at COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021.

The UNFCCC Climate Conference (COP26) begins next week in Glasgow. COP26 comes at a critical point in the fight against climate change, and many Indigenous Peoples and Local Community (IPLC) representatives will be attending.
