Call for adoption of Indigenous Peoples Policy of the Green Climate Fund

The Green Climate Fund has been debating its Indigenous Peoples Policy for a number of years.

Forest Peoples Programme has signed on to a statement of indigenous peoples’ organisations and their supporting calling for the adoption of the policy during the forthcoming 19th Meeting of the Board of the Green Climate Fund in South Korea.

In memory of Dan Ole Sapit

It was with enormous sorrow that the Forest Peoples Programme heard the news that Dan passed away unexpectedly in early February. The entire FPP team offers and expresses our sorrow at this untimely news, and our sympathy and sorrow for his widow and children.

Appeal for protections to be guaranteed

FPP supports the appeal from Asian regional organisations – indigenous peoples and other civil society actors – asking for the Asian Development Bank to retain existing public access to information and to strengthen the policy in key areas.

Wilmar International implicated in police shooting of two farmers on oil palm estate

Indonesian NGOs have protested strongly to the Indonesian government authorities and RSPO about an incident they recorded on 18th December 2017, when police security forces shot and wounded two farmers. The shootings allegedly took place in one of Wilmar International’s oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan in Indonesian Borneo.

Call to respond to the threats to the Sengwer

A powerful press conference was held this morning, 4 January 2018, in Nairobi, attended by over 20 press representatives and 26 Sengwer community members. Milka Chepkorir and Yator Kiptum spoke powerfully about the suffering their Sengwer community are experiencing at the hands of the Kenya Forest Service.
