Press Statement: Indonesia’s largest palm oil company, Golden Agri Resources on the ropes

Indonesian, Liberian and International NGOs have just filed five (5) new complaints against Indonesia’s largest palm oil company, Golden Agri Resources (GAR), after its failure to comply with RSPO standards. The NGOs have called for the conglomerate's certificates to be suspended, for GAR to be suspended from the RSPO Board of Governors and sanctioned for repeated non-compliance, and for the Complaints Panel to investigate GAR’s exceeding the land ceiling and hiding its ownership of majority-owned subsidiaries.

At the end of three intense days of discussion, exchange and drafting, representatives from the Ik, Tepeth, Batwa, Benet and Ngikarimajong have released the Kisoro Memorandum, a definitive statement of their rights and expectations for support from their government and from other actors, including the UN system.

Where next for the Sengwer and the EU WaTER Project?

The violence the Sengwer have been experiencing at the hands of KFS has continued, but a series of subsequent events and reports have emphasised that a radical restructuring of the EU funded WaTER projects is required before it can be resumed.

Call to respond to the threats to the Sengwer
