This submission had been made jointly by the Nepal Indigenous Women’s Federation (NIWF), the Lawyer’s Association for the Human Rights of Nepal’s Indigenous Peoples (LAHURNIP) and by the Forest Peoples Programme (FPP).
The submission details a series of situations and experiences in Nepal which reflect a persistent pattern of discrimination and human rights violation which is multi-focused. The experiences of indigenous women in Nepal reflect challenges and barriers which are directed at their status as women, but also related challenges which are directed at their status as indigenous persons. When often coupled with poverty and remote locations, these varied types of discrimination intensify each other, with gender discrimination heightened by the dimension of racial discrimination, and racial discrimination heightened by the gender dimension.
