The Federation for the Self -Determination of Indigenous Peoples (FAPI) in Paraguay has published a Protocol for free, prior and informed consent (FPIC). The guidelines are issued as a general FPIC framework applicable to all decisions, measures, projects and programmes, including forest and climate change projects and programmes, that may affect indigenous peoples' lands, territories and resources and other rights and interests in general. On the occasion of the bicentenary celebrations in Paraguay, the Federation for the Self-determination of Indigenous Peoples (FAPI) highlights grave historical and current injustices affecting indigenous peoples in the country, including ongoing expropriation of lands and territories by industrial farmers, ranchers and loggers. The statement calls for legal and judicial reforms, effective means of redress, compensation for past damages and the legal adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Only available in Spanish.

Les peuples autochtones du Paraguay demandent des garanties solides pour la protection de leurs droits collectifs dans les processus nationaux de planification REDD

Les peuples autochtones et les organisations autochtones du Paraguay ont travaillé sans désemparer en 2010 pour obtenir des garanties du gouvernement et des Nations Unies afin que toute politique, décision ou initiative relative à la préparation REDD respecte leurs droits collectifs, y compris leurs droits à la terre et au consentement libre, préalable et éclairé (FPIC). Par exemple, grâce à sa participation au Comité national REDD, la Coordinadora por la Autodeterminación de los Pueblos Indígenas (CAPI) a souligné que le programme UN-REDD doit se conformer pleinement à ses propres Operational Guidance on Indigenous Peoples (Document d’orientation opérationnelle sur les peuples autochtones). De plus, CAPI a insisté sur le fait que le gouvernement doit remplir ses obligations conformément aux traités internationaux et régionaux des droits humains que le pays a ratifiés.

Reports of two workshops on "REDD+ and Indigenous Peoples Rights" organised in Paraguay by the La Coordinadora por la Autodeterminación de los Pueblos Indígenas (CAPI) with FPP. The reports summarise the training work undertaken in the workshops and key issues arising in open discussions.
