Letter from CERD requesting Brazil's response to previous requests for confirmation that non-indigenous occupants have been removed from the area, that violence against indigenous peoples has been halted, and that indigenous peoples' consent is being obtained prior to the undertaking of construction and national park projects in Raposa Serra do Sol.

UN Commitee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) expresses grave concerns that the security and respect for the land rights of the Macuxi, Wapichana, Taurepang, Ingaricó and Patamona indigenous peoples of Raposa Serra do Sol (RSS) in the State of Roraima, Brazil “has not improved or has even deteriorated.” Strong recommendations include completion of “the final and total removal of non-indigenous occupants of the RSS indigenous lands”. CERD calls upon the Government to report to them by 30 November 2007.
