Indigenous peoples in Uganda release landmark document outlining their rights

At the end of three intense days of discussion, exchange and drafting, representatives from the Ik, Tepeth, Batwa, Benet and Ngikarimajong have released the Kisoro Memorandum, a definitive statement of their rights and expectations for support from their government and from other actors, including the UN system.

Protection of the right to land, territory and natural resources in regional and international law in Africa: A Toolkit for NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo

This toolkit provides information on the protection of the right to land, territories and natural resources in international and regional law in Africa. Its aim is to provide NGOs with concise and accessible information about the legal framework that exists for the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities in DRC with regard to their lands, territories and natural resources. It also provides useful information on the international and regional mechanisms which NGOs, and the indigenous peoples and local communities they work with, can use in order to claim their rights and advocate for the DRC government to respect its legal obligations at the international and regional level. 

La protección del derecho a la tierra, territorio y recursos naturales en el derecho internacional y regional africano: guía para las ONG de la República Democrática del Congo

Esta guía proporciona información sobre la protección del derecho a la tierra, los territorios y los recursos naturales en el derecho internacional y regional africano. Su finalidad es proporcionar a las ONG información concisa y accesible sobre el marco jurídico que existe para los derechos de los pueblos indígenas y las comunidades locales de la RDC con respecto a sus tierras, territorios y recursos naturales. También proporciona información útil sobre los mecanismos internacionales y regionales que las ONG y los pueblos indígenas y comunidades locales con los que trabajan pueden utilizar con el fin de reivindicar sus derechos y hacer presión para que el Gobierno de la RDC respete las obligaciones legales que ha contraído a nivel internacional y regional.

It includes all of the UN treaty bodies and the recommendations of the Human Rights Council and its Special Procedures, and the Advice of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Forest Peoples Programme (alongside partner organisations) has published three new publications; ‘Indigenous Peoples and the Green Climate Fund – A technical briefing for Indigenous Peoples, policymakers and support groups’, the third edition of ‘What is REDD+? A guide for indigenous communities’ and the second edition of ‘A Guide to Indigenous Women’s Rights under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women’.
