Press Statement: Solidarity for Green Advocates Liberia

FPP has received disturbing reports alleging oppressive treatment of staff belonging to the civil society organisation Green Advocates by the Liberian Government, causing Green Advocates' staff and their families to fear for their personal safety and go into hiding. FPP calls on the Liberian Government and international community representatives to take urgent and credible action to guarantee the security and safety of all Green Advocates staff and their families.

Communities make their voices heard in palm oil discussions

Communities in Liberia have spoken to palm oil sector representatives about ongoing land tenure issues and participation of peoples in future plans for their customary lands.

Sixteen representatives from across Liberia attended the 2nd Annual Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 (TFA) National Dialogue to talk about the future of both their lands and large-scale agricultural developments in the country.

Community response to Liberia's Forest Development Authority (FDA) concerning the TFA 2020 Africa Palm Oil Initiative

The Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 is a global public-private partnership, designed to remove deforestation from the palm oil, beef, soya, and pulp and paper sectors.  In Liberia it focuses on the palm oil sector and has previously worked with the government, private sector and civil society to produce a series of nine guiding principles designed to regulate the sector in Liberia.

Forest Peoples Programme Dialogue on Community-based Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV)

From 16-19 Nov. 2015, FPP in collaboration with its local partners working across the Africa region organized in Yaoundé in Cameroon a meeting on Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV). The objective of this MRV meeting was to develop a common approach to community-based monitoring and set out appropriate indicators and tools for MRV that FPP and partners can mainstream throughout various initiatives on the ground to secure the rights of forest communities.

Entre el 16 y el 19 de noviembre de 2015 el FPP organizó, en colaboración con sus socios locales que trabajan a lo largo de toda la región de África, una reunión en Yaundé, Camerún, para tratar el tema del monitoreo, reporte y verificación (MRV). El objetivo de esta reunión fue desarrollar un enfoque común para el monitoreo basado en la comunidad y establecer indicadores y herramientas apropiados para el MRV que el FPP y sus socios puedan integrar en todas sus iniciativas sobre el terreno para garantizar los derechos de las comunidades de los bosques.

Dialogue du Forest Peoples Programme sur les mesures, notifications et vérifications (MNV) communautaires

Du 16 au 19 novembre 2015, le FPP, en collaboration avec ses partenaires locaux de toute la région africaine, a organisé à Yaoundé au Cameroun une réunion sur la surveillance et les mesures, notifications et vérifications (MNV). L’objectif de cette réunion sur les MNV était d’élaborer une approche commune à la surveillance communautaire et de définir des indicateurs et outils appropriés pour les MNV que le FPP et ses partenaires peuvent intégrer dans les différentes initiatives sur le terrain visant à garantir les droits des communautés forestières.

Acara Dialog Forest Peoples Programme tentang Pemantauan, Pelaporan dan Verifikasi (MRV) Berbasis Masyarakat

Dari tanggal 16 sampai 19 November 2015, FPP bekerjasama dengan mitra-mitra lokalnya yang bekerja di seluruh wilayah Afrika menyelenggarakan sebuah pertemuan di Yaoundé, Kamerun, tentang Pemantauan, Pelaporan dan Verifikasi (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification/MRV). Tujuan dari pertemuan MRV ini adalah untuk mengembangkan pendekatan umum untuk pemantauan berbasis masyarakat dan menjabarkan indikator-indikator dan alat yang tepat untuk MRV yang dapat diarusutamakan oleh FPP dan mitra di berbagai inisiatif di lapangan untuk mengamankan hak-hak masyarakat hutan.
