Strong and powerful traditional authorities and decision-making structures are very important for indigenous and local communities to protect them against external threats to their lands and livelihoods and to maintain or facilitate decision-making for resource use. FPP assists communities and their leaders to become strengthened and empowered to address important matters more effectively.
One aspect is to enable community leaders or networks to have regular meetings to discuss collective issues, concerns, and strategies. Exchange visits with other indigenous groups to exchange experiences and ideas is another means to strengthen indigenous institutions. FPP also helps partners to set up and provide training programmes that are designed to build community members’ knowledge and skills related to indigenous rights and related issues.
