Association Sanguia Baka Buma’a Kpode (ASBABUK)
ASBABUK is an organisation lead by an indigenous Baka team, founded in September 2010 and headquartered in Moloudou. Its objective is to defend the rights and interests of indigenous forest communities in Cameroon. On behalf of baka communities, ASBABUK signed an MoU with the Cameroonian Ministry of Forests and Fauna in February 2019 (revised in September 2023) which gives access for carrying out traditional activities to the National Parks of Lobeke, Boumba Bek and Nki, and the Ngoyla Forest Reserve. ASBABUK also supports the schooling of Baka children and the registering of their birth certificates.
The logo of ASBABUK represents a hut, which is our house in the forest and which symbolises our home. Houses are what you find in a village, but our “moungoulou” is for everywhere else. For the Baka, it’s like a tent. It’s practical, easy to build and everything it is made from can be found quickly in the forest. That’s why we love it so much.
