Event: The Global Indigenous Movement: Past Achievements, Future Challenges
Joji Cariño (Director of the Forest Peoples Programme and Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Secretary-General of the United Nations) will be speaking at the event series of the Social Movements and Civil Society Research Group of City University London. The event will be held on the evening of Thursday 26th March 2015 between 6.00 - 8.00pm.Joji Cariño began her work as an activist and analyst of indigenous peoples' issues in her native Philippines, focusing on dams projects in the Cordillera region. Over 30 years she has worked as an active campaigner and advocate of indigenous peoples' human rights at community, national and international levels. Previously, she was Executive Secretary of the International Alliance of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of the Tropical Forests, Policy Advisor and European Desk Coordinator of Tebtebba Foundation and Team Leader of its Indigeenous Peoples and Biodiversity Programme, and served as Commissioner on the World Commission on Dams.
