Indigenous Peoples reaffirm their rights in preparation for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014
In preparation for the United Nations World Conference on Indigenous Peoples to be hosted by the UN General Assembly in 2014, Indigenous Peoples meeting in Alta, Norway, have reaffirmed their inalienable rights to self-determination and to sovereignty over their natural resources. In a detailed statement to the UN, the Indigenous Peoples identify four main themes for the Conference on 1. lands, territories and resources, 2. the UN System for the implementation of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, 3. the wider implementation of their rights and 4. development with free, prior and informed consent.
