An independent field study reveals that indigenous peoples in Indonesia lost large parts of their customary territories to a pulp and paper company’s (APRIL) plantations, without having their rights recognised, and without their Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).

High Carbon Stock Approach finalises its Social Requirements

The HCSA recently finalised a set of 14 Social Requirements that must be followed when applying the High Carbon Stock Approach. An Implementation Guide for the Social Requirements has also been developed and provides guidance for those applying the HCSA and its Social Requirements.

Pendekatan Stok Karbon Tinggi (HCSA) adalah sebuah alat yang digunakan untuk mengenali dan menjaga hutan yang diterapkan oleh perusahaan-perusahaan yang memiliki komitmen terhadap nol deforestasi, perlindungan atas lahan gambut, dan penghentian eksploitasi sosial. HCSA saat ini telah menjadi bagian dari Prinsip dan Kriteria dari RSPO. HCSA baru-baru ini menyelesaikan serangkaian 14 Persyaratan Sosial yang harus dipenuhi ketika menerapkan HCSA.

Free, Prior, and Informed Consent in REDD+: Principles and Approaches for Policy and Project Development

The principle that indigenous peoples and local communities have a right to give or withhold their Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) to developments affecting their resources is not new. However, experience using FPIC in REDD+ implementation is still limited in the Asia-Pacific region. Using relevant examples from a range of locations and sectors, this manual provides a basis for developing country-specific guidance on employing FPIC in REDD+ processes.
