On 13 December, representatives and community members of the Santa Clara de Uchunya community, accompanied by their representative indigenous organisations, reaffirmed their struggle against the territorial dispossession they have suffered since several years by the company Plantaciones de Pucallpa, whose plantations are now operated by Grupo Ocho Sur.

El 13 de diciembre, representantes y comuneros de la comunidad Santa Clara de Uchunya, acompañados de sus organizaciones indígenas representativas, reafirmaron su lucha frente al despojo territorial que sufrieron hace algunos años por la empresa Plantaciones de Pucallpa, cuyas plantaciones son operadas hoy por el Grupo Ocho Sur.

This week, Peruvian and international organisations filed a complaint before the OECD in the Netherlands, which calls for Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) to be held accountable for contributing to negative impacts on the environment, human rights and corruption through its sourcing of palm oil from the Ucayali region in the Peruvian Amazon.

Negotiations between the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU are set to finalise the EU regulation on deforestation-free products and agree on a compromise for a final text to be adopted. Today, only France continues to impede progress by blocking any attempt in the EU negotiations to keep the inclusion of the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.

Last week, Politico reported that Sweden, among some other EU countries, is pushing back on incorporating stronger human rights due diligence requirements in the EU’s proposed deforestation regulation, which is in the last stages of trilogue negotiations.

La semaine dernière, Politico a informé que la Suède, entre autres pays européens, s’opposait à l’intégration d’exigences plus strictes en matière de protection des droits humains dans le projet de règlement de l’UE concernant la déforestation, qui en est aux derniers stades de négociation en trilogue.
