AIDESEP strongly rejects the campaign promoted by the palm oil corporate group Ocho Sur. We denounce that this company has been undermining the self-determination and self-government of the Amazonian indigenous peoples of Ucayali and our possibilities of building a Full Life in our territories.

Are human rights abusing plantations hiding in RSPO supply chain? Palm oil body insists on greater transparency for miller in Peruvian Amazon but loopholes persist

The RSPO has upheld that Peruvian palm oil miller OLPESA must not buy or process palm from deforested Indigenous lands, which were converted to a plantation which the RSPO condemned in 2016. However, its decision fails to dispel the spectre of human rights violations and large-scale deforestation from agroindustrial supply chains given the limited scope of the RSPO’s own standards.

La RSPO ha afirmado que la planta extractora de aceite OLPESA no debe comprar ni procesar palma de tierras indígenas deforestadas en el Perú, que se convirtieron en una plantación condenada por la RSPO en 2016. No obstante, su decisión no logra disipar el espectro de las violaciones de derechos humanos y deforestación a gran escala en las cadenas de suministro de productos agroindustriales debido al alcance limitado de los estándares de la RSPO.

The HCSA recently finalised a set of 14 Social Requirements that must be followed when applying the High Carbon Stock Approach. An Implementation Guide for the Social Requirements has also been developed and provides guidance for those applying the HCSA and its Social Requirements.
