The International Finance Corporation Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (IFC CAO) has formally announced its withdrawal from the case of PT Asiatic Persada, following the sale of the concession by Wilmar in April 2013, and the new management’s decision to continue mediation through a government team instead. This is despite the fact that the affected Batin Sembilan communities and complaint signatory NGOs have repeatedly called on the IFC CAO to continue its role as mediator and to encourage the company to pursue this avenue towards conflict resolution.

La CAO (Oficina del Asesor en Cumplimiento/Ombudsman) de la Corporación Financiera Internacional (CFI) ha anunciado oficialmente que se retira del caso de PT Asiatic Persada tras la venta de la concesión por parte de Wilmar en abril de 2013 y la decisión de la nueva dirección de continuar la mediación a través de un equipo gubernamental en su lugar. Estos hechos se han producido a pesar de que las comunidades Batin Sembilan afectadas y varias ONG firmantes de una denuncia han pedido repetidas veces a la CAO que continúe haciendo de mediador y aliente a la empresa a seguir esta vía para solucionar el conflicto.

Le conseiller-médiateur de la Société financière internationale a officiellement annoncé son retrait du dossier concernant PT Asiatic Persada, suite à la vente de la concession par Wilmar en avril 2013, et la décision prise par la nouvelle direction de poursuivre la médiation à l’aide d’une équipe gouvernementale.  Ceci en dépit du fait que les communautés batin sembilan concernées et les ONG signataires de la plainte ont demandé à maintes reprises au conseiller-médiateur de la SFI de continuer à assurer la médiation et d’encourager l’entreprise à poursuivre dans cette voie en vue de résoudre le conflit.

Ombudsman/Penasihat Kepatuhan Korporasi Keuangan Internasional [Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman of International Finance Corporation ( IFC CAO )] secara resmi mengumumkan pengunduran diri dari kasus PT Asiatic Persada, menyusul penjualan konsesi tersebut oleh Wilmar pada bulan April 2013, dan keputusan manajemen baru untuk sebaliknya melanjutkan mediasi melalui tim pemerintah. Hal ini terlepas dari fakta bahwa masyarakat Batin Sembilan yang terkena dampak dan NGO penandatangan pengaduan telah berulang kali menyerukan kepada CAO IFC untuk melanjutkan perannya sebagai mediator dan mendorong perusahaan untuk mengambil jalan ini untuk menyelesaikan konflik. Serangkaian pertemuan penutupan pertama berlangsung di Jambi pada tanggal 26 Oktober 2013 dan ditandai dengan aksi walk-out bersama dari NGO penandatangan pengaduan, yaitu FPP, Sawit Watch, CAPPA dan SETARA Jambi, setelah penyerahan Pernyataan Bersama untuk CAO IFC yang merangkum berbagai keluhan dan menyoroti kelemahan-kelemahan sistemik dan prosedural yang serius dalam keterlibatan CAO IFC itu sendiri, yang sedikit banyak telah berkontribusi pada kegagalan proses mediasi di PT Asiatic Persada.

Concerns about the environmental and social impacts of the conversion of vast tracts of land to monocrop plantations led in 2004 to the establishment of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), which encourages oil palm expansion in ways that do not destroy high conservation values or cause social conflict. Numerous international agencies have also called for reforms of national frameworks to secure communities’ rights and to develop sound land governance.

La preocupación por las consecuencias ambientales y sociales de la conversión de vastas extensiones de tierra en plantaciones de monocultivo condujo al establecimiento en 2004 de la Mesa Redonda sobre el Aceite de Palma Sostenible (RSPO por sus siglas en inglés), la cual fomenta la expansión de la palma de aceite de maneras que no destruyan altos valores de conservación ni causen conflictos sociales. Numerosas agencias internacionales también han pedido reformas de los marcos nacionales para asegurar los derechos de las comunidades y establecer una gobernanza de la tierra buena y responsable.
