People-to-People Declaration of Laboot, and community film of the East Africa Assembly

In June 2022, ten indigenous peoples’ communities from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania came together for the ‘East Africa Assembly on Land, Justice and Indigenous Peoples’ Co-operation’, the first round of a series of women-led community-to-community assemblies to explore how to overcome the legacy of colonial conservation in Africa and put an end to indigenous land appropriation.
Watch the film the communities made of the Assembly:
At the end of the assemblies the people drafted the People-to-People Declaration at Laboot to present at the Africa Protected Areas Congress in July 18-23. The declaration, along with others created during the Congress, will serve to communicate their demands for rights-based conservation into the future.
