In a joint open letter to the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, 28 NGOs expressed deep concern about the failure to integrate human rights into the framework, thereby overlooking the fundamental reality that nature destruction is strongly linked to human rights violations. The need to address environmental, economic and social concerns in a combined manner to ensure sustainable business practices is a core principle established since the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. This integrated approach is fully enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with which the TNFD seeks to align. While the creation of TNFD outlined the aspiration to align with the international human rights framework, the TNFD’s Beta framework does not once mention human rights.
