Inter-American Commission on Human Rights adopts precautionary measures in favour of  the indigenous community of Maho in Suriname.  Precautionary measures are granted in situations where there is a threat of irreparable harm. In its letter to Suriname, the Commission requests that Suriname adopts all necessary measures to protect the integrity and property of the community in the lands reserved to it in 1971, and that it ensures that there are no further incursions by persons from outside the community.  These measures were adopted in response to a petition and request for precautionary measures submitted by the community and the Association of Indigenous Village Leaders in Suriname (VIDS), the national indigenous peoples' organisation, with technical support from Forest Peoples Programme (FPP).
