Indigenous Led Education (ILED)
The Indigenous-Led Education Network (ILED) is a collaboration established in 2020 to support indigenous peoples to continue passing on their knowledge systems, cultures, and languages, based on their own priorities and ways of learning. FPP is a founding member of the ILED Network, whose secretariat is currently hosted by the Rutu Foundation.
The ILED Network supports grassroots initiatives among its members through direct small grants that strengthen communities’ cultural and ecological resilience by boosting their community-led education. Small grants are between €5,000 and €8,000 and use an accessible, democratic, peer-led nomination process. The intention is to scale up the number of small grants available via the Network.
The Network facilitates regional exchanges, involving young women and network partners in Asia and Latin America. These exchanges have contributed to expanding knowledge around gender and education, its relation to environmental conservation, empowerment, and the role of indigenous women as knowledge transmitters. The Network also hosts a youth fellowship programme, to give selected indigenous youth a dedicated role of engagement within community-level ILED activities and the chance to gain practical experience and develop skills, receive mentoring, visit other youth-led ILED initiatives, and join online meetups and training.
