The Congolese Observatory for Human Rights (OCDH)
The Congolese Observatory for Human Rights (OCDH) is a non-profit human rights organization established in the Republic of Congo since 1994. It is one of the leading organizations in Congo-Brazzaville for independent monitoring of the human rights situation in the country. The OCDH holds observer status with the Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) of the African Union. It is also a member of the International Federation for Human Rights and the World Organization Against Torture.
The OCDH fights against human rights violations and impunity for perpetrators. It supports victims of human rights violations in their pursuit of justice. It strengthens the performance of public authorities in protecting human rights. It helps citizens understand and claim their rights. It advocates for the advancement of the legal framework to foster legislation that better protects fundamental rights and freedoms in the Republic of Congo, with a particular emphasis on promoting and defending the rights of local communities and indigenous populations dependent on forest resources.
The OCDH has received various Human Rights Awards from the French Republic.
