Association of Indigenous Village Leaders in Suriname create impact at the Amazon Summit in Belém

The Association of Indigenous Village Leaders in Suriname (VIDS), which is an FPP partner, was part of a coalition from Suriname that took part in a protest demonstration - 'March of the peoples of the earth for the Amazon'.
During this march, VIDS highlighted that Suriname is the only one of the eight Amazon countries that has not recognized the rights of indigenous and tribal peoples.
Their declaration stated: "For us, there can be no equal dialogue about the Amazon without the recognition and legal protection of the collective rights of indigenous and tribal peoples."
