"Leave. That will be our peace" Santa Clara de Uchunya condemn the constant presence of Ocho Sur in their ancestral lands and urge the company to stop creating internal divisions and leave permanently

Through a public statement, community members from Santa Clara de Uchunya, a community belonging to the Shipibo-Konibo people, categorically reject the continued presence of the Ocho Sur company on their lands. Ocho Sur continues to violate their collective rights and attempts to sow internal divisions that would favour their commercial interests.

Read the statement

The community has a long history of resistance against the model of large-scale agribusiness which has replaced biodiversity with monocultures and created social conflicts, as well as promoting land trafficking within the Shipibo-Konibo people's ancestral lands. In light of all of the legal proceedings that Ocho Sur are involved in, as well as all of the international advocacy efforts carried out to stop the company, the community has reached their limit; they say, “enough!” to the company for trying to create internal divisions to assert its presence.

Santa Clara de Uchunya reaffirm that there is no signed agreement of understanding between the community and the company, and demand the definitive withdrawal of Ocho Sur from their communal territory.
