UK parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee accepts additional evidence from Forest Peoples Programme

Following oral evidence sessions, Forest Peoples Programme submitted additional written evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee ahead of publication of its report and recommendations.
Ahead of the publication of the Environmental Audit Committee’s (Committee) report on Deforestation, Forest Peoples Programme submitted additional evidence to support efforts to weigh up the efficacy of the UK Government’s current approach, forwarding impactful recommendations that support indigenous peoples’ human rights and efforts to keep their forests standing.

The additional evidence sought to update the Committee on several developments occurring during the inquiry’s duration, which began in September 2022 with oral evidence sessions held between Nov 2022 – Mar 2023.
FPP gave oral evidence in March 2023, and the Committee held a private meeting to hear from experts on the ground, including FPP partners Norman Jiwan, a Kerambai Dayak indigenous leader from Borneo, West Kalimantan Indonesia; and James Otto, Program Coordinator of the Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program (CRCGP) from the Sustainable Development Institute, Liberia.
The final report is expected in October 2023.
