Press statement: NGOs call for reforms following death of indigenous Indonesian man in palm oil company office

An indigenous man has died after allegedly being assaulted and tortured during a visit to the offices of a palm oil company in Papua, Indonesia. The company, a subsidiary of Korindo Group, is said to have cleared the man's banana plot, and the alleged attack took place when he visited their offices on 16 May to discuss this issue.
Fifteen Indonesian and international NGOs have signed a press statement calling for Korindo Group to respect human rights, and for the district police to investigate the allegations against the company.
