Forest peoples and indigenous women speak out at the 44th Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights - Nigeria

Fifteen indigenous people and civil society representatives, supported by Forest Peoples Programme andRights & Democracy, travelled from various parts of the African continent to Nigeria to directly inform the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights of the issues facing indigenous peoples in their home countries.

The events in Abuja included a training programme to help the delegates prepare. This formed part of a series of training sessions about the African Commission that are taking place in different countries in Central Africa.

Several of the delegates also spoke at a special event focused on the rights of indigenous women. The event was chaired by the Commission's Special Rapporteur on Women and was jointly organised with IWGIA.
