Carbon Markets: An Introductory Series of Animations for Indigenous Peoples and Forest Peoples

For decades, indigenous peoples and their representatives have demanded that all policies, funding and initiatives aimed at addressing the climate crisis must respect and protect their rights, cultures, livelihoods and knowledge. They have insisted on being treated as central actors – and as rights holders – in the design and implementation of climate solutions.

One proposed climate solution, which has rapidly been gaining attention in climate discussions at all levels is ‘carbon markets’.

In the context of increasing attention to the human rights and environmental critiques of carbon markets - as well as the booming of 'high-integrity initiatives' claiming to address these - we have developed an introductory series of animations aiming to support indigenous peoples and forest peoples identify key questions to ask and consider to make their own self-determined decisions about carbon markets.

This series of animations consists of 4 episodes and has been developed by Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) and the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) in the hope to support indigenous peoples and forest peoples to start asking these questions.

Watch and share the animations in English, Spanish, French and Bahasa Indonesia
