The Cañamomo Lomaprieta Reservation requires the immediate and definitive suspension of any activity related to the regulation of free, prior, and informed consultation

The Resguardo Cañamomo Lomaprieta Indigenous Reserve urges national indigenous organisation ONIC and the Permanent Consensus Roundtable to immediately suspend of any activity and engagement related to the current process to amend national regulations on the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consultation and Consent
The Colombian government has attempted to limit the right to free, prior and informed consent recognised for indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples in the international legal framework binding on Colombia and in the jurisprudence of its own Constitutional Court. To this end, since the end of 2019 it has attempted to issue a Decree regulating free, prior and informed consultation. With the exceptional powers of the State of Emergency decreed due to the pandemic, the government tried to limit the right through circulars without judicial or legislative control. On 25 November 2020, the Indigenous Movement of Colombia, gathered at the Summit of Indigenous Thought, mandated the National Roundtable of Concertation not to move forward with any proposal to regulate or limit the right to free, prior and informed consent. The Cañamomo Lomaprieta resguardo reiterates this mandate.
