Guardía Indígena Regional

The Indigenous Guard (Guardía Indígena) of the Shipibo Konibo Xetebo people was created in November 2021 at the First Regional Meeting of Amazonian Indigenous Guards in response to the advance of illegal economies, deforestation and other territorial threats in the communities, as well as the lack of protection offered by the Peruvian State to safeguard their lives.

As part of the exercise of their own autonomy, the Shipibo Konibo Xetebo people decided to reactivate ancestral forms of self-protection and organize themselves to provide internal security to 176 communities with territorial scope: the protection and recovery of their territories.
