Three years on from his murder, Colombian indigenous leader’s killers remain unpunished

April 7, 2018 marks the third anniversary since the brutal assassination of Colombian Indigenous leader Fernando Salazar Calvo, a member of the Embera Chamí People of the Resguardo Indígena Cañamomo Lomaprieta, Caldas, and a vocal member of the Resguardo’s Ancestral Miners Association, ASOMICARS.
Forest Peoples Programme has written a letter urging President Santos and Attorney General Néstor Humberto Martínez to ensure that this case be resolved as soon as possible, through rigorous investigation that leads to the capture and prosecution of the intellectual and material authors of this egregious act. We also encourage the international community and our allied organisations to speak out and write letters urging a speedy resolution to this case, so that justice may be done, and peace and tranquility brought to Fernando’s family and the community.
We will not tire to speak out about the loss of our friend and colleague, until justice is done.
