Joint letter on the Equator Principles revision process
The Equator Principles are a set of environmental and social risk management tools that have been adopted by 92 major banks and lending institutions. Although they are voluntary, they should provide a minimum standard for due diligence on risks covering issues like deforestation and human rights abuses.
The Equator Principles are currently being revised, and Forest Peoples Programme has joined in a call with other social justice organisations, for a swift revision process that:
- engages with civil society;
- ensures meaningful provisions on indigenous peoples’ rights and climate change;
- and secures additional commitments on compliance, due diligence and verification by private banks and financiers.
