National Toshaos Council (Guyana) annual conference, October 2019

The National Toshaos Council -- the body of leaders of the indigenous villages in Guyana – held its annual conference in October 2019.

The NTC adopted a final resolution calling for strengthening of protections for indigenous rights, including calls for the Government to revise the Amerindian Act so it meets, at a minimum, international laws and standards on indigenous rights; to respect their rights to their traditional lands, territories and resources; to ensure their effective participation in decision-making on issues affecting their communities; and to support their community-led efforts to collaborate towards protection of their environment, landscapes, and cultural heritage.
